BREAD • Biostatistics, Research Ethics And Design Program

Clinical and translational research presents unique methodological, statistical and ethical challenges to investigators. The BREAD Program provides services to help investigators at UCSF and affiliated CTSI institutions meet these challenges successfully and produce research of the highest scientific and ethical standards.

Services:

BREAD services are designed to be easy to access, comprehensive, and integrated, and offer access to experts in the areas of:

  • Study Design and Implementation: for questions about study design, sampling, recruitment, measurement, and implementation of both observational studies and clinical trials, including specific support for multicenter clinical trial design and implementation
  • Data management: for questions about how to design databases and workflow to support studies, and for assistance with actual programming of a variety of database types, including Web-accessible databases
  • Biostatistics: for help with data analysis and interpretation of results, manuscript and grant preparation, statistical aspects of study design, and responding to reviewers.
  • Ethics: for complex questions on research ethics, including first-in-human studies, vulnerable populations, stem-cell and gene therapy studies.

Initial consultations are free of charge, with subsequent services provided on a recharge basis. Follow this link for an explanation of our recharge policy.
