As Co-Director of the Collaborative Research Network, Dr. Potter has participated in a wide range of projects that seek to better understand the process of primary care and find practical interventions that can improve patient care. He is currently engaged in research related to interventions to improve colorectal cancer screenings and the development of an integrated cancer curriculum.

Donald Abrams, MD

Dr. Abrams is the chairman and principal investigator of the Community Consortium, an association of Bay Area HIV Health Care Providers and one of the pioneer community-based clinical trials groups. His current research interests include antiretroviral therapies, interventions for HIV-related wasting, alternative therapies and clinical trial design. He is the author of numerous manuscripts on clinical aspects and treatments of HIV infection and serves on a number of editorial boards.

Ricardo Alvarez, MD
Medical Director, Clinica Esperanza
Dr. Alvarez is the medical director of Clinica Esperanza, the HIV services clinic at Mission Neighborhood Health Center, for the last ten years. Clinica Esperanza is diverse with regard to language capacity, country of origin, HIV status, socio-economic backgrounds, gender, sexual orientation, and immigration status. It was the recipient of the HRSA Special Projects of National Significance grant to examine our readiness model to support adherence to complex HIV medications. Dr. Alvarez’s research interest includes medication adherence and institutional trust.

As a trained epidemiologist, Dr. Handley’s areas of interest are in translational studies linking primary care epidemiology and public health, binational community health, and practice-based research focusing on reducing health disparities. As Co-Director of the CRN, Dr. Handley oversees one of the longest standing practice-based research networks in the United States.

Lisa Kroon, PharmD, CDE

Dr. Kroon is working with community pharmacies to develop pharmaceutical care programs that increase pharmacists' accessibility, allowing them to enhance the care they provide to patients. She also practices in the UCSF Diabetes Clinic, Diabetes Teaching Center, and General Medicine Clinic. Her research specialties include community pharmacy practice, diabetes mellitus, and tobacco cessation.

As director, Dr. Lubin has been a driving force in the expansion and development of basic and clinical research at CHORI and recently began the CHO Related Donor Cord Blood Program. His research interests include clinical hematology, pediatric research and how environmental factors interact with genetics to cause disease.

Anna-Barbara Moscicki, MD

Dr. Moscicki is the Director of the Teen Colposcopy Clinic at UCSF. Her research centers on human papillomavirus, cervical cancer, clinical and behavioral predictors for high-risk sexual behavior related to HIV infection, and tobacco addiction in adolescents. Dr. Moscicki also serves as the Associate Director for Clinical Services of the Division of Adolescent Medicine.

Dr. Oka current holds a clinical practice in adult cardiology at the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital. Her research focuses on developing effective multiple risk factor reduction strategies that can be utilized and implemented in a wide array of clinical settings to improve outcome and quality of care in populations at risk or with cardiovascular disease and to determine the biological basis for the benefits accrued by CVD risk reduction interventions.
