  • Chair: Joe Selby, MD, MPH
    Director, Division of Research, Kaiser Permanente, Lecturer, Department of Epidemiology, UCSF
    Dr. Selby has been the Director of the Division of Research (DOR), Kaiser Permanente, Northern California, since 1998. He is a family physician, clinical epidemiologist and health services researcher. Dr. Selby has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has written numerous book chapters. His publications cover a spectrum of topics from colon cancer screening and diabetes complications to the delivery of primary care.

  • Clay Johnston, MD, PhD
    Director, Biostatistics, Research Ethics and Design Program, Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Director, Stroke Service, UCSF
    Dr. Johnston treats patients with cerebral aneurysms, vascular malformations, and stroke in the Neurological Intensive Care Unit and on the wards. Most of his care of patients occurs in the hospital, but he also sees some patients with complex neurovascular problems in the clinic. Dr. Johnston studies stroke treatment and prevention using the tools of computer science and epidemiology. He is also the director of the BREAD program, which provides services to UCSF researchers to help them address the unique challenges that occur when conducting clinical and translational research.

  • Larry Kushi, ScD
    Associate Director for Etiology and Prevention Research, Division of Research, Kaiser Permanente
    Dr. Kushi is recognized for his expertise in nutritional epidemiology, and his research interests have focused on the role of diet and nutrition in the etiology of coronary artery disease and breast and other cancers. Dr. Kushi currently serves on a grant review committee for the American Cancer Society and has served on various American Cancer Society committees to develop guidelines for the dietary prevention and management of cancer.

  • Neil Risch, PhD
    Director, Institute of Human Genetics, Professor and Joint Chair, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, UCSF
    Dr. Risch, a statistical geneticist and genetic epidemiologist, is involved in a variety of projects of both a theoretical and applied nature. These studies include both clinical and population genetic projects. Current research involves additional mapping and positional cloning of these variant forms. Dr. Risch has also collaborated in large, multi-site projects on genetic susceptibility to hypertension and cardiovascular disease endpoints. These projects involve linkage analysis, positional cloning, and population based association studies.

  • Steve Sidney, MD, MPH
    Associate Director for Clinical Research, Division of Research, Kaiser Permanente
    Dr. Sidney has been Associate Director for Clinical Research of the Division of Research (DOR) Kaiser Permanente Northern California, since 1998. He is Board certified in internal medicine and certified as a Preventive and Rehabilitative Exercise Program Director by the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Sidney has authored or co-authored more than 160 peer-reviewed scientific publications while a researcher at the DOR. His research publications cover a diverse range of topics, primarily in the area of cardiovascular epidemiology.

  • Constance Weisner, DrPH, MSW
    Professor in Residence, Department of Psychiatry, UCSF, Adjunct Researcher, Division of Research, Kaiser Permanente
    Dr. Weisner is a health services researcher and director of the director of the Drug and Alcohol Research Team at Kaiser Permanente. She is a member of the World Health Organization's International Expert Advisory Council on Drug Dependence and Alcohol Problems, a member of the National Advisory Council of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Her research includes alcohol and drug problem epidemiology, substance abuse treatment access, outcome, cost impact and gender issues.
