Two-Year Intensive Master's Degree Program in Clinical & Translational Research (MCTR)
Students participating in the two-year program will be awarded a Masters in Clinical Research degree. Following this step-wise exposure to clinical research training, the student should be well positioned for success as an independent clinical researcher. The MCTR Program is a two-year (7 quarter) period of study for individuals who wish to master clinical research methods and pursue independent research careers. Course work extends beyond that which is required for the ATCR Certificate Program to include instruction in advanced biostatistics and specialized topics such as outcomes research, medical informatics, molecular methods in clinical research, and decision and cost-effectiveness analysis. Master's students must complete 36 units, the majority in the first year to allow a focus on independent research in the second year. There are also more rigorous requirements for the students' individual projects including a comprehensive review of the literature in their field, presentation of original work at a national scientific meeting, and publication of a first-authored peer-reviewed manuscript. Students also serve as an instructor in a clinical research methods course. Students will serve as a teaching assistant in a TICR course during the second year. Students will work closely with faculty mentors on their Master's Committee. This program is administered by the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Read More.
