Genetic epidemiology of aging- and endocrine- related traits. Students interested in studying human genetics using large populations are encouraged to contact Dr. Hsueh for further discussion. Several excellent datasets are available for studies, including data from extended families in a founder population and large cohorts of unrelated individuals. Students will have choices in identifying their suitable projects, such as epidemiological analysis, linkage studies and genetic association studies, depending on their research interests and background. Students are welcome to participate in on-going projects or initiate a feasible pilot project. On-going projects include the following:
1) Genetic epidemiology of diurnal preference and its relationship with aging in a founder population
2) Candidate gene studies of obesity and type 2 diabetes
3) Genetic epidemiology of telomere length and its relationship with aging in a founder population
