CTSI Announces Awards to 23 UCSF Faculty

Continuing its efforts to accelerate research, UCSF’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) has announced the awarding of grants to UCSF faculty totaling more than half a million dollars.

The awards are offered by CTSI’s Strategic Opportunities Support (SOS) program and managed through the UCSF Resource Allocation Program (RAP). The SOS program is designed to catalyze research and career development activities in clinical and translational science.

The Fall 2012 funding cycle included 23 grant awards (19 offered by SOS and four offered by CTSI’s Clinical Research Services program). Awarded funding exceeded $569,000; an average of nearly $25,000 per award. View all awardees and funded projects.

Now in its seventh year, the SOS program awards nearly $1million annually to help move research forward at UCSF, said Alice Fishman, MS, senior program manager for the SOS program.

“These awards provide crucial funding to support campus research, and in particular, are an important resource for junior faculty,” she said.

The SOS awards include funding for research related to mobile health innovation, multidisciplinary research planning, multi-center start-up planning, and other areas of research. There are also awards for post childbearing development leave and under-represented faculty. Two new awards were also included in the latest cycle: King’s Health Partnership Faculty Fellowship Travel Grant and a Pilot Award for Established Investigators.

UCSF's CTSI is a member of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards network funded through the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (grant Number UL1 TR000004) at the National Institutes of Health. Under the banner of "Accelerating Research to Improve Health," CTSI provides a wide range of resources and services for researchers, and promotes online collaboration and networking tools such as UCSF Profiles.
