Optimum quality human biological specimens are essential for conducting cutting-edge translational research and furthering precision medicine. The Biospecimen Resources (BIOS) Program facilitates the efficient acquisition, quality control and management of bioscpecimens at UCSF.
Projects undertaken by the BIOS Program include:
- Developing an acquisition infrastructure to increase the number of high-quality, well-annotated human research biospecimens at UCSF.
- Facilitating synergy of existing biobanks and research biospecimen handling across the campus community without interfering with disease-group governance of biospecimens.
- Developing an efficient pipeline for using excess clinical specimens for research.
- Implementing an enterprise-wide laboratory information management system (LIMS) for biospecimen lifecycle annotation and management.
