Chancellor Outlines Three-Year Plan, Credits CTSI

In her State of the University Address on October 4, 2011, UCSF Chancellor Susan Desmond-Hellmann provided an overview of successes and challenges, and outlined a three-year plan to support her vision of UCSF as the world’s preeminent health sciences innovator. Among the accomplishments highlighted was the awarding of a five-year, $112 million National Institutes of Health renewal grant to UCSF’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) in support of efforts to transform the research environment at UCSF to improve health. In regard to CTSI, she referenced the importance of accelerating the translation of science, noting that “we need to make sure we’re effective at collaborating, both with other academic institutions and with industry.” The Chancellor also presented five goals that will guide UCSF’s efforts over the next three years, and made time for questions from the diverse audience.
