The Research Action Group for Equity (RAGE) was created to provide support and infrastructure for UCSF researchers to create better conditions for all people to participate in research as participants and as part of the research workforce. We offer consultations and resources and promote other initiatives essential to ensuring that the research enterprise more equitably promotes well-being.
Get Help with Recruiting Diverse Populations

Consultations
The RAGE program provides expert consultation on engaging diverse populations to reduce barriers and enhance research participation. Consultants—including faculty, staff, and community leaders—offer guidance on planning, budgeting, community partnerships, and developing effective recruitment and retention strategies

Resources
In 2020, the UCSF Office of Research’s Task Force on Equity and Anti-Racism in Research was established and charged with assessing existing campus-wide equity and anti-racism activities relevant to research across the institution.
The key recommendations of the Task Force fall within four categories:
- Establish a system of accountability on anti-racism and equity for the UCSF research enterprise
- Promote and support UCSF anti-racism scholarship
- Create and support a more diverse UCSF research workforce
- Promote and support community-engaged research

Capacity Building & Training
Recognizing that consultation alone is not sufficient for achieving diverse research participation or health equity, the RAGE program also focuses on:
- Advancing diversity across the research workforce, including staff, trainees, and faculty
- Promoting health equity research
- Driving institutional and systemic changes to address structural barriers to DEI in research
- Equipping all research trainees with the skills to support diverse participant recruitment

Language Access Resources
We currently offer support for language translation of research documents. Submit a consultation request to get started - eligible projects may receive up to $1,500 in support.
The RAGE program is deeply connected to CTSI’s Community Engagement and IMPACT programs.
