Biospecimen Custodianship and Storage
The Biospecimen Processing Lab provides secure, round-the-clock monitored biospecimen storage and inventory management via a UCSF enterprise LIMS system.
- Storage of blood, body fluids and tissue
- Ambient, 4°C, -20°C -80°C, and liquid nitrogen sample storage
- Biospecimen temperature and physical security measures
- Bi-annual preventative maintenance and calibration
- Calibration and PM certificates available upon request
- Redundant and remote 24/7 temperature monitoring (Dickson Oceasoft system)
- Freezer temperature logs available upon request
- All freezers hooked up to back-up generators with physical staff presence to monitor samples
- All freezers locked with restricted access
- Bi-annual preventative maintenance and calibration
- Samples acquired and/or processed by the Biobank are de-identified and 2D barcode labeled.
- Documentation tracked in the MBioLIMS database system, which is a web-based regulatory compliant database to track samples through collection, processing, storage and distribution.
