Biospecimen Custodianship and Storage

The Biospecimen Processing Lab provides secure, round-the-clock monitored biospecimen storage and inventory management via a UCSF enterprise LIMS system.

  • Storage of blood, body fluids and tissue
  • Ambient, 4°C, -20°C -80°C, and liquid nitrogen sample storage
  • Biospecimen temperature and physical security measures
    • Bi-annual preventative maintenance and calibration
      • Calibration and PM certificates available upon request
    • Redundant and remote 24/7 temperature monitoring (Dickson Oceasoft system)
      • Freezer temperature logs available upon request 
    • All freezers hooked up to back-up generators with physical staff presence to monitor samples
    • All freezers locked with restricted access 
  • Samples acquired and/or processed by the Biobank are de-identified and 2D barcode labeled.  ​​​​​
  • Documentation tracked in the MBioLIMS database system, which is a web-based regulatory compliant database to track samples through collection, processing, storage and distribution.
