Faculty Assistant Director, Informatics and Research Technology Program (IRT)
Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI)
The CTSI Informatics and Research Technology Program (IRT) helps clinical and translational researchers use data and emerging technology for their research, with a particular focus on use of electronic health record (EHR) systems, both for EHR data and the EHR’s capacity to modify healthcare delivery. Program Goals for the next 7 years include:
- Grow and optimize a robust core of data science resources, tools, and services.
- Extend EHR-linked data science resources to safety-net and community health systems and support data harmonization and integration.
- Enable rapid deployment and evaluation of interventions that use emerging digital technologies.
- Innovate informatics methods and technologies to address Learning Health System barriers.
Applications are sought from current UCSF Faculty (all schools) for the position of Faculty Assistant Director, Informatics and Research Technology (IRT) program of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). All academic ranks are encouraged to apply.
This is an internal UCSF search. This is a part time 10% (up to NIH Cap) position. The Faculty Assistant Director of IRT reports to CTSI IRT Director, Mark Pletcher, MD, MPH.
Scope of Work
The IRT Faculty Assistant Director partners with the CTSI IRT Faculty Director in providing leadership, overall programmatic direction, and vision for the CTSI’s IRT Program. In addition, the Asst Director works with the IRT Staff, other CTSI programs, the Academic Research Services (ARS) team, UCSF Health, and other advisory bodies and vested parties to spearhead and develop resources, tools, and infrastructure for the UCSF research enterprise to support informatics-driven research. Also within the scope of the role, the Asst Director may engage with SFDPH, ZSFG and CTSI Research Innovation Network (RIN) partners from around the Bay Area to facilitate and design initiatives that support use of electronic health record data, AI and other methods to support UCSF researchers.
The specific priorities of the Asst Director will be determined by the incumbent in collaboration with the IRT Faculty Director and staff leadership. General responsibilities may include:
- Co-lead the IRT Program and team, which includes full-time and part-time staff. This includes participation on IRT program leadership team and regular engagement with institutional partners at UCSF and UCSF Health in the development, direction and evaluation of the IRT Program
- Partner with IRT Faculty Director and staff on strategic planning and alignment of new and existing initiatives. Develop and prioritize initiatives and activities to be responsive to the needs of our constituents and partners, including researchers, CTSI leadership and programs, UCSF Health, SFDPH, ZSFG, UCSF Fresno and others
- Develop new and enhance current IRT programs and services in response to the needs of the UCSF research and broader community.
- Work closely with the IRT Program staff and ARS partners to guide program operational activities, including attending weekly IRT Operations meetings.
Criteria for appointment:
- Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank.
- Ladder Rank, In Residence, Clinical X, Health Sciences Clinical or Adjunct series appointment.
- DNP, PhD, MD, DO, DDS, Pharm D, DPTSc, DSc, or equivalent.
- Track record of relevant research experience
This is a one-year appointment, renewable contingent upon funding and programmatic needs.
