The article describes outcomes from the first two faculty cohorts who completed a CTSI Mentor Development Program (MDP) at UCSF that was established in 2007 to train the next generation of clinical and translational research mentors. A majority reported a significant increase in confidence in mentoring skills and most reported an increased understanding of important mentoring issues at UCSF. The MDP can serve as a model for other institutions. The unique and comprehensive course materials are available online.
