Biospecimen Resources Program

Optimum quality human biological specimens are essential for conducting cutting-edge translational research and furthering precision medicine. The Biospecimen Resources (BIOS) Program facilitates the efficient acquisition, quality control and management of biospecimens at UCSF.

Projects undertaken by the BIOS Program include:

  • Developing an acquisition infrastructure to increase the number of high-quality, well-annotated human research biospecimens at UCSF.
  • Facilitating synergy of existing biobanks and research biospecimen handling across the campus community without interfering with disease-group governance of biospecimens.
  • Provide a centralized infrastructure and services for biospecimen processing, QA/QC, and discovery.
  • Implementing an enterprise-wide laboratory information management system (LIMS) for biospecimen lifecycle annotation and management.
