TIPR
A curriculum designed to serve & support Community-Based Residency Programs
The TIPR curriculum aims to enhance research and quality improvement expertise within community-based residency training programs. It offers faculty and trainees resources to develop and implement practice-based research projects that address the specific needs of their local communities.
The program includes flexible, modular coursework, quarterly community faculty check-ins, expert support, networking opportunities, career development resources, and funding for travel grants to present findings at scientific meetings in the United States. Residents and fellows who successfully complete the curriculum also receive a ‘Certificate of TIPR Course Completion’.
Since 2022, 146 community-based residents and fellows have participated in and benefited from the TIPR curriculum. TIPR cohorts present research at various conferences and symposiums. The 2026 UCSF Annual Rodnick Colloquium featured 17 TIPR projects, including 9 oral presentations and 8 posters.
Enrollment for the 2026-2027 TIPR cohort is currently OPEN. Community-based residency programs interested in enrolling residents in the UCSF-TIPR Curriculum are encouraged to direct inquiries to Saji Mansur, TIPR program Administrator, at [email protected]
TIPR Curriculum Design and Key Focus Areas
The TIPR curriculum is developed collaboratively by stakeholders at UCSF-FCM, UCSF-CSTI, and faculty/mentors from community-based residency and fellowship programs. This process intentionally incorporates diverse perspectives, experiences, and expertise from both the primary academic institution and community partners and practitioners to create a user-centered curriculum. The current TIPR curriculum focuses on the following areas:
- Clinical Research
- Quality Improvement
- Implementation Science
- Abstract Writing
- Study Dissemination & Communication
- Career Development
About the Sponsor - The TIPR curriculum is an initiative of the UCSF Clinical and Translational Science Institute (UCSF-CTSI) designed to establish a robust foundation in research and quality improvement that supports residents' career advancement and clinical workforce development. Its primary objective is to provide community-based residents with a broad understanding of clinical and translational research methodologies and evidence-based medicine, while motivating and equipping them to pursue future research and fellowship opportunities. Participation in the TIPR curriculum offers clinical and translational research experiences to residents and fellows who intend to integrate research into their careers or engage in practice-based research and quality improvement initiatives within community-based clinical settings.
