Vanessa Jacoby, MD, MAS Appointed Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Research

After a highly competitive search, Vanessa Jacoby, MD, MAS has accepted the role of Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Research (AVC-CR), effective August 14, 2023.

The AVC-CR reports to the Vice Chancellor for Research and provides enterprise-wide leadership to the clinical research community. In this role, the AVC-CR directs UCSF’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and oversees all Office of Research clinical research programs. Partnering closely with the Office of Research executive leadership, the Provost, and the Deans of the School of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy, the AVC-CR identifies and implements innovative programs and policies to address UCSF’s clinical research needs.

Dr. Jacoby is Professor and Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences. In her nearly two-decade career, she has conducted multiple studies to improve care for people with uterine fibroids, including clinical trials of new, minimally invasive surgical and medical therapies. Since the start of the pandemic, Dr. Jacoby has worked with multidisciplinary teams to study the impact of COVID-19 on reproductive health and outcomes. Dr. Jacoby’s research has been driven by patient-centered outcomes, community partnerships, and recruitment of underrepresented study populations. She is a dedicated mentor who has been involved with many research training programs including the CTSI K Scholars program and the UCSF ARCHES program to support research faculty from historically excluded groups.

Dr. Jacoby has served as faculty director for CTSI’s Participant Recruitment Program since 2016. In this role, she has developed a deep understanding of the UCSF clinical research landscape and has proven highly effective in implementing impactful change for the institution.
