Since its launch in 2010, UCSF Profiles has become an increasingly prominent research networking tool on campus. The site currently receives 35,000+ visitors and 60,000+ page views each month, and features information on 4,200+ UCSF experts and 100,000+ publications.
In addition to the most recent updates to Profiles that included the addition of mentoring information, and the ability to include web links and SlideShare presentations, there are two new features to report. Individual profiles can now also highlight:
- Grants received from the NIH: Includes grant name(s), project number(s) and fiscal year of the award. The grant name is also a link to full grant information on the NIH Reporter site. This information is showing on UCSF Profiles now, or can be hidden if desired.
- Global Health experience: Currently including countries in which investigators have worked.
For an example of these two new features, see CTSI Director Clay Johnston’s profile.
"UCSF Profiles is continuing to evolve as a powerful research networking tool, and as a resource for finding and connecting with experts on campus," said Leslie Yuan, director of CTSI's Virtual Home (VH) program. "Traffic for the site also continues to increase steadily, and users are letting us know that they're finding this information useful for everything from finding a book contributor or guest lecturer to identifying a research collaborator."
The VH team has extended the functionality of the Profiles product in a variety of ways, and these enhancements are available to other institutions using VIVO or Profiles via a shareable library of OpenSocial applications. For more information, contact the [email protected].
