Quantitative imaging metrics to be linked to joint kinematics, kinetics, patient function and translated to the musculoskeletal clinic to improve patient management and outcome.
The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Disease (NIAMS) has recently funded a new Center of Research Translation, a joint collaboration between the UCSF Departments of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, Orthopedic Surgery, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Physical Therapy and UC Davis. A total of 6.3 Million dollars (with 1.2 Million dollars allocated to UC Davis) will be used over the next 5 years to achieve the overall objective of the center, which is translation of quantitative imaging in osteoarthritis.
The Co-Principal Investigators are
Sharmila Majumdar, PhD, UCSF Professor in Residence and Vice-Chair of Research in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging and
Nancy E. Lane, MD, UC Davis Professor and Director of the Center For Healthy Aging.
The center’s combined team will include orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, imaging scientists, bioengineers, physical therapists, epidemiologists, and biologists. This team is built upon the strong foundation of interdisciplinary collaborations between these investigators, with a focus on translational research, and is supported by numerous individual investigator and programmatic grants that have established these collaborative research partnerships between these investigators and their respective institutions.
