Former K Scholar Leads Senior Health Fair for Community

Kirby Lee, PharmD, MAS is a former CTSI K Scholar and associate professor UCSF Department of Clinical Pharmacy. His research interests include the use of patient-centered health information technology to improve medication safety and health outcomes and evidence-based health care.

Students for the Interprofessional Aging and Palliative Care elective,
 Dental program, UC Hastings and UC Berkeley School of Optometry
 participated in a Senior Health fair at The Redwoods in Mill Valley on
 February 7. The effort was led by Kirby Lee, PharmD, associate
 professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy. UCSF faculty Sarah
 Hooper, JD, Susan Hyde, DDS, MPH, PhD, Lynda Mackin PhD, AGPCNP, CNS,
 Meredith Whiteside, OD, FAAO and Michi Yukawa, MD also planned the
event and led the student groups.



The health fair offered senior community residents free health
 monitoring such a dental, vision, mobility, and blood pressure
 screenings. In addition, UC Hastings offered resources related to legal
 issues for seniors. 65 enthusiastic health fair participants showed up
to have students and faculty provide check-ups. The response from the
 residents was very positive, including comments that the health fair
 was "wonderful" and "a great job!" Student feedback was also positive.
 A nursing student commented, that she "enjoyed meeting residents and
receiving professional guidance from the faculty." An optometry student
 noted that the best part of the experience was, "seeing and talking to
elderly patients and talking with other professionals."
