Sharon Chung, MD, MAS to serve as CTSI Interim Director

Sharon Chung, MD, MAS, Medical Director of CTSI’s Clinical Research Services (CRS) program and Professor of Clinical Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine will serve as interim director for CTSI when Harold “Hal” Collard, MD, MS assumes the role of Vice Chancellor, Research. 
 
Dr. Chung obtained her MD from Johns Hopkins University and completed residency in Internal Medicine at John Hopkins Hospital. She came to UCSF as a Clinical Fellow in Rheumatology and joined the UCSF faculty in 2007. She completed a Master’s Degree in Advanced Studies in Clinical Research at UCSF in 2008. 

Dr. Chung's research interests include understanding how genetic and epigenetic factors contribute to disease susceptibility and clinical heterogeneity in autoimmune diseases.  She serves as a Director of Clinical and Translational Medicine for the Immune Tolerance Network, where she develops clinical trials investigating novel strategies to induce tolerance to treat immune-mediated diseases. Lastly, Dr. Chung is internationally recognized for her expertise in treating systemic vasculitis. She created the UCSF Vasculitis clinic in 2010 and recently led the development of the inaugural American College of Rheumatology/Vasculitis Foundation clinical practice guidelines for the management of systemic vasculitis.
