UCSF Participant Recruitment Service Making Strides

2012 was a big year for UCSF’s Participant Recruitment Service (PRS), which is managed by the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). In addition to launching the UCSF Research Participant Registry and the Recruitment Materials Toolkit, PRS has more than doubled in growth.

In summer 2012, the PRS merged with the Study Coordinator Core to form a comprehensive unit servicing UCSF researchers, which provides study recruitment support, as well as study management and regulatory support. By combining resources, the UCSF Participant Recruitment and Study Management Services now serves more than 30 studies across many UCSF departments.

2012 by the Numbers:

  • 900 – Research volunteers who have joined the Research Participant Registry since its launch in March 2012;
  • 5% - Registry participants that enrolled in UCSF interventional studies;
  • 23% - Registry participants enrolled in web-based survey studies;
  • 28 – Research studies served across recruitment, coordinator, & regulatory services (includes industry sponsored and NIH/Investigator initiated trials);
  • 6,627 – Cohort-ID direct mail letters sent to potential participants;
  • 305 – Participants screened for enrollment in UCSF research studies through PRS direct efforts.
